The Non-Conformist

Here’s last night’s little painting. This one could be called “The Non-Conformist,” as I used just 3 hues of red + white to make this, but as you can see, a little blue snuck itself into one square.

New, But Am I Done?

I don’t think so.  I made some very small changes, and I like it better now, but it still doesn’t seem quite right.

Last one for today. Four (or was it 3?) paintings today, and two new ones yesterday, plus I finished a large one that’s been in the works forever, it seems! I feel so productive, except for the fact that the last 6 canvases are so so tiny…

More New Color Studies in Oil

Less flowy than the large painting I finished last night(!), I’m really grooving on these little color studies in oil. I did a couple last night; they are probably a little stiff, but there will be many more to come, I’m sure! Looking forward to seeing where all these experiments land me.

Every Painting Takes on a Life of its Own

This one started out as an attempt to reproduce at a larger scale a small acrylic from last summer…and it wasn’t working. I began to rework it in oil at the beginning of this year, and maybe it’s done now…not sure. I need to live with it for a bit and see what else, if anything, needs to happen.

A Fun Experimental Painting

In between working on my series of color minis and larger works, I’m repainting some old failed works. This was one of my early experiments in acrylic, but is now more delightfully covered in oil paint; it has more or less the same color palette as the original, but the imagery is quite different! You can see the old intentionally scraped and gouged texture under the oils. Kind of fun, no?

Yesterday’s Painting

I do have an overall plan for this little body of work, but I never know really where each painting will go, once I get going. Which is, of course, part of the fun of the process.

I do particularly like this one, even if it is a bit blocky. Thinking of the word “fresh” when choosing a palette.
